UEFA have confirmed that the Champions League round of 16 first leg between Leipzig and Liverpool will now take place at Puskás Aréna in Budapest on 16 February.
The German government has banned entry on all arrivals from areas affected by Covid-19 mutations until at least February 17, with the only exceptions made for German citizens or residents.The ban came into effect and it has been confirmed there will not be any special allowances.
A statement from the German government read: "The Corona Protection Ordinance passed by the German government provides for only a few exceptions and no special regulations for professional athletes.
"The Federal Police informed the club RB Leipzig that the described case constellation does not fall under the exceptions."
Following UEFA recently changed competition rules allowing ties to be switched or moved to a neutral venue and two-legged matches can even be reduced to a single game.
UEFA have confirmed that the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg match between RB Leipzig and Liverpool FC will now take place at Puskás Aréna in Budapest. The date of the match (16 February 2021) and kick-off time (21:00CET) will remain the same.
The Puskas Arena hosts the majority of the Hungarian national team's home games, and has a capacity of 67,215.
"UEFA would like to thank RB Leipzig and Liverpool FC for their close cooperation and assistance in finding a solution to the issue at hand, as well as the Hungarian Football Federation for their support and agreeing to host the match in question."
The second leg still looks set to go ahead as planned at Anfield on March 10.
